The Law of Attraction

The law of attraction states “like attracts like.”  It is believed that positive OR negative thoughts bring positive or negative outcomes.  What you think is what you get.  Popularized by the book and documentary called “The Secret” where it emphasizes that people are meant to live to in abundance.  They reiterate over and over that what you think is what you’ll ultimately get. An example: if you only ever think about your bills and how they keep coming they will continue to come. However, if you were to think of money in your account and focusing your thoughts on how to make that number grow larger then it will be so.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. (Matthew 7:7) You do not have to be religious to try this out.

Here is my story. I was living in my house with the ceiling literally falling down. I was $11,000 in debt. I had no car and I was on the verge of losing my job with my boss giving me the ultimatum of either hitting my numbers or I’m fired. Oh yeah, and my long-term boyfriend at the time decided he didn’t want to be my boyfriend any more and left me. This is how my conversation with my boss went which ended up being my last straw (and ultimately made things turn around for me!):

Boss: Sharon, do you like this job?

Sharon: Yes I do! I love this job actually I get along with everyone it’s great.

Boss: Well that’s fine Sharon…but you can’t be happy with your paychecks. You aren’t selling enough furniture.

Boss: I’m getting pressure from my bosses and I’ve been too lenient on you.

Sharon: But sir, I really think this is where I need to be I love it here.

Boss: If you like retail maybe you’d consider working for Best Buy since you’re really into technology I see people ask you for advice about that stuff all the time.

Boss: Or you can prove me wrong and sell like hell and show me that this is really what you want to do. You need to make more money. I don’t need to remind you that your commission depends on how much you sell. If you don’t sell anything you don’t make any money in fact you are costing the company money. I hired you because you showed me a lot of drive and you showed me that you were HUNGRY. I need to results do you understand?

Sharon: Yes sir.

….and that was that. Something inside me had clicked and my overall attitude changed. This was my rock bottom I can only go up from here. Suddenly I was selling furniture because I didn’t hold back with my customers. By the time they walked out the door they knew my life story and I knew theirs and by golly they bought furniture from me. I was able to buy a new car. I got my ceilings fixed; and in just 18 months I was able to get out of debt and secure $10,000 inside my savings. Then two years later I married the love of my life.

So where I’m getting is… I didn’t solve my problems by focusing on the problems. My problems were solved because my focus was on the solutions and my happiness.   I didn’t discover “The Secret” or the law of attraction until after I was married. It echoed my experience though and I KNOW that it’s TRUE. What you think, what you’re passionate about, is what manifests into your life. If all you are thinking about are your issues, your illness, etc. that is all you are going to continue to get. …But if you start focusing on your dreams, and the feelings you would have when you acquire them eventually those dreams will become your reality.

Thank you for sharing this story, Sharon. I know some people that all they do is focus on their problems and they wonder why they have so many problems, but they never do anything about their problems. I would love it if everybody would learn from their experiences rather than sitting back and complaining about them. Maybe they need to read your blog like I do.

Thank you Maddie. Unfortunately you can tell people a million times what they should or shouldn’t do and they won’t do anything. They have to decide for themselves that they want to change. Some people mistake being comfortable and content as happiness. Truth is there is a difference between settling and having peace in your heart. I think we function body and soul the best when we are pursuing something we are passionate about. What people don’t realize if all they are passionate about are problems then that is all they will get out of life.

I agree with you 100%, Sharon. If I run into a problem, I try my best to try to solve the problem or fix things the best I can. I don’t just shut down. I don’t sit there and complain about the problem. I deal with it the best way I know how. Not everyone is like that though. Some people become complacent in their situation with their life or situation. When complacency sets it, some people don’t want to try to change.
