BEWARE of Collections Scam

So today I was sorting through my mail and came across this letter supposedly from EOS CCA.  They were saying that I owe $190.76.  Now I am the type of person that is fully aware of my credit status and what debt if any I have. No where in my records do I have any pending charges such as this amount.  I would not have a 790+ credit score if I have any delinquent accounts out there.

After searching for a bit I came across this site: http://www.ripoffreport.com/r/EOS-CCA/Norwelll-Massachusetts-02061/EOS-CCA-Creative-Scammer-at-least-make-sure-the-account-exists-stupid-ripoff-artists-905584  where apparently other people received the same letter.  I feel like I should report this somewhere but I’m not sure where.  I can see how some people could get tricked into just paying this legitimate-looking bill.

I highly recommend that if you ever get a collections letter like this look up all of the phone numbers listed.  All three phone numbers listed on the letter resulted in “Who is calling me?” type links and other links that feature a bunch of foreign characters in the link descriptions.

  1. Sharon, I am the same way. My credit score is about the same as yours and you don’t get that way by having delinquent accounts. Apparently, whoever sent you that scam letter didn’t do their homework before sending that to you. They probably just sent those letters out to a bunch of people thinking they would panic at the site of an overdue bill and just pay it. Have you tried calling that company and just saying, “Hey, do you know what my credit score is? I’m pretty sure you have the wrong person here because I don’t have a credit score like that if I had delinquent accounts floating around.”

    • I’m afraid that if I called the number they did provide, then it will just give them ammunition to target me further and/or sell my information to another company and claim that it is valid. I think I will just leave it alone for now but keep the letter for my records for when I figure out where I can report it.

  2. Luckily, I have never been scammed! I do know a few people that have left letters like that to my family though. They can be quite scary. It makes it even worse when they keep calling you.
