“Respect is earned” – I disagree with this statement.

IMG_1571 See, in my opinion EVERYONE deserves to be respected.  All life should be respected.  I think that until people do something to insult or offend another that is when they earn disrespect.  That’s right, disrespect is earned. The other day I witnessed a driver honk two times in two different situations where the driver in front of them was stopped at a red light they immediately honked when the light had turned green.  That act of impatience in my opinion earns my disrespect for that person.  I think that sometimes people have a misconception that respect and reputation are the same thing. I believe that if more people lived their lives with the mentality that they are privileged instead of entitled, this world would feel like a different place.

  1. I completely agree. I was always told by my grandparents that respect is earned but like you stated above everyone deserves it. If you are nice and respectful to someone then most of the time, they will respect and be nice to you right back. My dad used to be pretty rude to me but I would always try to be respectful and nice to him and he eventually started being nice to me too. I think it just takes a little while for people to realize it. Not everyone is going to be nice but maybe you should try to put yourself around people that are nice to you and they will rub off on you and you’ll learn how to be respectful. I always say treat others how you wish to be treated. If you are disrespectful to someone, 9 times out of ten they will be a bit mean back to you so be nice to people! 🙂

  2. I agree, though I’m of the mentality that there are two different types of respect; the type of respect that everyone should be treated right, and the respect one gets through action or duty. One of my pet peeves is that I often treat people with respect, but do not get it in return. It really bugs me.
