Why do dogs love cat food so much?

I try to stay on top of it, I do. Whenever I let the dogs roam around the house I make it a point to put the cat’s food on top of the counter.  There are times when I forget though and I look down and see Percy’s bowl completely empty.  Percy would never touch the dogs’ food. Yet, Kimo and Balthazar… they gobble it up like crazy.  I don’t know why.  Are dogs generally just that gluttonous?

So yep I Googled it: “Why do dogs like cat food?” So basically… according to Vetstreet.com, dogs are attracted to cat food because of the higher protein content.  Apparently some dogs can handle cat food while others can’t.  As for my dogs… well, I don’t know because I haven’t allowed them to eat much. Percy does pretty well at eating his food (a little too well, talk about gluttonous creatures!) so what the dogs manage to steal are small leftovers.

Haha, I haven’t lived the experience of having dogs & cats at the same time. I think this is so responsible to handle both at the same time. Why don’t you share their photos here? This will be really amazing.

I’ve always wondered this too. It’s weird because all of the dogs I have had eat our cats food. Strangely enough, our cat also eats the dogs food. My oldest dog will eat anyone’s food other than hers unless we put a can of gravy train over it and then she usually only eats that part. We buy meow mix for my cats and I think is it meat flavored so that might be another reason why my dogs like it so much, the flavor of their dog food is vegetable or something so I can understand why they wouldn’t want to eat that.

I’ve heard that cat food had more calories in it than dog food did. I thought this was strange because I figured that dogs would require more than cats would, especially big dogs like a German Shepard or a Great Dane. I use to have a black lab / blue healer mix, and she would try to eat the cats food whenever I’d take her to see a friend of mine. I know my dog gets plenty of food to eat at home and I always gave her the best food you could buy for a dog.

I guess you learn something new everyday, I didn’t know personally that dogs love cat food. But now I do know why and it’s cause of higher protein content in the food.

I do find it very cool and fascinating though.
